Dear Professor or Teacher,

I want to let you know about a free OpenStax-based textbook I found online that might be appropriate for our course.  This textbook, titled “Human Biology – An Introduction to the Body’s Organization, Structure, and Function,” contains 23 chapters with extensive use of figures and integrated TED-Ed videos about relevant topics.  I included the list of chapters at the end of this letter.

Instructors who adopt the textbook have access to extensive resources.  Students can subscribe to an optional low-cost Companion Student Resources with learning and assessment tools for each chapter, including study guides, terminology activities, 250+ figure discussion videos with review questions, self-assessment activities, and chapter practice quizzes.

The author presents detailed information from surveys of students who have used the textbook, which is very positive.

He also included comments from two instructors who used the textbook:

“This Human Biology textbook exceeded my expectations. Its clear organization, comprehensive text, high-quality illustrations, and valuable links to supplementary materials make it an outstanding choice for instructors. I also appreciate the accompanying student resources provided through Biology411.com. This free textbook is perfect for human biology instructors who want to provide their students with accessible, high-quality learning materials.”- Theresa Martin, Professor of Biology, College of San Mateo

“This textbook is an excellent resource for students to learn human biology. The information in the chapters is well organized, accurate, and effectively integrates visual and textural information. This is a high-quality textbook that will enable students to understand and appreciate the amazing workings of the human body. Plus, the companion student resources are very helpful in reinforcing student comprehension.” - Scott Croes, Professor of Anatomy and Physiology, Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District

Although these comments are from college instructors, the book is also appropriate for junior and senior high school human biology or intro. anatomy and physiology courses.

I would appreciate it if you would take a few minutes to review the information about the textbook and resources on the author’s website (biology411.com). As you know, traditional textbooks are expensive, and OER-based textbooks are becoming increasingly popular. This option would save students money without compromising the content and resources you need for teaching our course.

Thank you very much!
